Mayor

Gary Peitz is the current Mayor for the City of West Point. Gary is proud to have lived in West Point for most of his life. He and his wife of 40 years, Becky, raised their two children Nicholas and Cassandra here. Gary is a graduate of Ft. Madison High School and Northeast Missouri State University (Now Truman State). After graduation Gary began his eight year career in public service, which culminated in his retirement from the Eight Judicial District Department of Correctional Services where he served as Assistant Director for eleven years. During that year he also served this community as a reserve Police Officer. Gary has also been in numerous volunteer organizations in this community. We was a member of the West Point Fire and Rescue for 20 years and had the honor of serving as Chief. Gary was a founding member of the West Point Ball Association and the West Point Fireworks Committee, of which he and Becky are still active in bringing the annual fireworks display to the community. Gary volunteers and serves as a Board Member for the Ft. Madison Food Pantry. He has been invloved in youth activities over the years having coached baseball, softball, soccer, and continues to coach youth bowling. Helping community youth learn skills that assist them as adults has been a passion. He is a PaPa to 6 grandchildren, 3 boys and 3 girls, ages ranging from 15-4. Gary looks forward to serving this community in his new role as Mayor!
